GUSTAVO BERMUDEZ

DESIGNER

Gustavo Bermudez earned his Bachelor of Architecture Degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Born in the historical city of Guanajuato, Mexico, and later raised in California, he credits his bi-cultural upbringing as the source for his keen interest in respectfully fusing innovative design with historical architecture. While earning his degree, Gustavo worked on designing and building several diverse, innovative projects ranging from portable emergency shelters to light fixtures fabricated from recycled water bottles. Gustavo was a recipient of the “Best in Show” award for his thesis “Emerging Gridiron”, which focused on providing an architecture solution to the socio-economic impact of sport arenas in disuse and dilapidation.

After graduation, Gustavo began his professional career with Square three Design Studios in Palo Alto, working on several multimillion-dollar single family homes throughout the Silicon Valley. In 2013 he joined San Francisco’s Y.A. Studio, where he helped to manage and design a diverse portfolio of projects from small and humble additions to new 17,000 square foot multi-residential building in San Francisco’s Russian Hill district. He has also completed the design and execution of the interiors for a 7,000 square foot home in Tahoe, California, and was an integral designer for the reconditioning of a Richard Neutra-designed residence near San Francisco’s Twin Peaks.

In his spare time, in addition to pursuing his professional licensure, Gustavo enjoys cycling, cooking, co-designing and fabricating furniture with his wife, and collecting sneakers to his ever-growing shoe collection.
